Travel Light, Glow All Day, What Makeup to Pack For a Short Trip
With the holiday season just passing, I had the chance to visit Đà Lạt, Vietnam for three days. It was a short trip, but a really refreshing one. The scenery, the weather, and the calm atmosphere made it a beautiful experience that I'm excited to share here. We didn't travel there on our own; we went with a tour group.
When you travel on a short trip, you really can't bring too many things. You have to leave space for clothes, shoes, skincare, bathroom essentials, and makeup. On top of that, you also need to save room for anything you might buy or bring back with you.
So in the end, you have to pack light and choose your products carefully.
Base
When it comes to base makeup, you have to make choices. You can't pack everything—BB cream, CC cream, liquid foundation, and powder foundation. You really only need to pick one or two at most.
For me, when I travel, I stick to either foundation or BB cream. That's usually all I need—simple, lightweight, and enough to keep my routine easy while I'm away. Most of the time, I bring a BB cream because it gives me light coverage and doesn't require as many extra products. With a BB cream, I don't feel the need to bring primer, setting powder, or finishing powder, which saves both space and time.
Powder
Even though I skip setting powder when I use a BB cream, I still like bringing a compact powder. It's useful for touch-ups throughout the day, especially if the weather is warm or humid. A compact powder is small, easy to carry, and helps keep shine under control. It's one of those products that's always worth making room for.
Blush
Blush is one product I never leave behind. When you're traveling and wearing minimal makeup, a little color on the cheeks can make a big difference. It helps you look more awake, refreshed, and put together, even after a long day of sightseeing. I usually bring two or three shades with me so I have a few options depending on my mood and outfit.
Illuminator
I like bringing an illuminator when I travel. It adds a healthy glow and makes my skin look more radiant in photos. Since vacations usually involve taking pictures, a little extra glow can go a long way. Soft, glowing makeup has also been a major trend recently, with more people focusing on glowing skin rather than heavy makeup.
Lip Gloss & Lip Tint
I try not to overpack lip products, even though they're small and easy to toss into a makeup bag. I usually bring a few lip glosses and lip tints in different shades. A lip tint is great for long days because it lasts longer, while a lip gloss can instantly make a simple makeup look feel more polished.
But if there's one lip product I never forget, it's lip balm. I always bring my WishCare lip balm with me. I've tried other products, but nothing seems to keep my lips moisturized the way it does. Traveling can easily leave my lips feeling dry and chapped, especially when I'm spending long hours outdoors, so a good lip balm is an absolute essential in my makeup bag.
That said, it works. It keeps my lips moisturized, prevents them from getting chapped, and leaves behind a light tint that looks natural and flattering. As much as I complain about the price, it's become one of those products I keep repurchasing because I haven't found anything else that works quite as well for me.

EYESHADOW
I also bring a small compact of eyeshadow—just a very small palette with three colors so I can keep my look consistent and simple.
Final Thoughts
When I travel, I like to keep my makeup bag light and practical. Since I usually wear a natural makeup look, I only pack the essentials that I know I'll use. This collection is ideal for weekend getaways and short trips, offering everything you need without taking up too much space.
